Tanya Charles

Program and Impact Lead for the Atlantic Institute

Tanya Charles is Program and Impact Lead for the Atlantic Institute in Oxford, serving a global fellowship of leaders addressing the root causes of systemic inequalities. Her role is to develop and curate virtual and in-person events and programs that strengthen the work of Atlantic Fellows in tackling an array of inequalities and which foster collective action towards a world which is more equal and just. Tanya previously worked independently in the non-profit sector delivering bespoke training, curriculum development  and research to organisations like Oxfam and PACT International. Tanya’s work in this arena focused on women’s rights and engaging men and boys for gender justice.  In Zimbabwe, Tanya developed a training manual on transforming the landscape of small-scale mining to be more inclusive of women to foster their economic participation in this sector. This led to her applying for and being accepted to the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity program in 2018 and completing a Masters degree in Social Science and Inequality at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2019. Tanya sees her recent entry into augmented reality and the digital economy as a new site of activism where the voices and experiences of marginalised groups can be brought to bear in powerful and life-enhancing ways.
