David McGovern is an Irish socially-engaged artist and educator. He works with moving image, audio and text to create space for self- enquiry, reflection and speculation. His work centres on deeply personal, complex moments of human behaviour. Themes in his work include creative block, masculinity, memory, care, and queer futures.

Dialogue and provocation are central to his work. He is interested in what is hidden and why we hide it. David shows work outside of gallery spaces to nurture conversation and foster more relaxed environments. These spaces have included a former kimono shop in Japan, an opticians in Dublin and a cocktail bar in London.

Most recently David was Artist-in-Residence in Studio Kura in Itoshima, Japan. Following this success, he was invited to Arts Itoya to exhibit work and host public workshops. He is currently based in rural Ireland.
