The Wicked Opportunities Podcast reframes today's wicked (complex) problems into transformative visions for a regenerative future. We believe our outdated mindsets pose the greatest limitation to implementing sustainable solutions. Each month, we tackle a wicked trope that dominates the zeitgeist and reframe it into a Wicked Opportunity using Strategic Foresight. In this presentation, I will discuss the dystopic narrative of "Zombie Apocalypse" which we define as the manipulation and monetization of attention (essentially the Attention Economy). I will "flip-the-script" on this issue to reveal the transformative vision of the "Global Brain", a planetary information and communications technology network that interconnects all humans, becoming increasingly intelligent and playing the role of a brain for the entirety of humanity.

This discussion reimagines technology in a transformational and sustainable network that serves humanity, rather than "zombifying" us. Technology is not the problem, but the ways in which these tools are capitalized divides us, siphons our resources, and could ultimately lead us to an apocalyptic future. Using foresight allows us to leverage the complex landscape to create a sustainable digital economy, ensuring a more equitable future for all. This presentation cultivates responsible use of technology into the far-future by way of telling two alternative stories: Zombie Apocalypse or Global Brain.
