PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION
I am both an architectural practitioner running an international practice called PHASE3 and have recently launched a magazine called Alternative Futures. I would propose do a presentation which to weaves a long arch of ideas to discuss how collaboration through practice and print can create a more thoughtful future for the built environment based on value.
Founded in 2012 by Tyen Masten, PHASE3 is a London-based practice that connects architecture, thinking and design to create big, serious, thoughtful projects. We don't just create architecture – we design strategies. Strategies that enable us to distil the complex right down to its essence. Strategies that unlock hidden potential for our clients. Strategies that allow us to design at any scale. Strategies for Future Building: for our clients, for ourselves and for our cities.
We have recently launched a zine called Alternative Futures which is a project aimed at projecting research and ideas synthesized during Tyen’s 10-years teaching and researching at the Architectural Association in London. It is a collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, interviews, and inspirations that are critical of today and optimistic about tomorrow. Each issue brings together a variety of voices to delve deep into topics such as digital technologies, counterculture, and future building. Upon the release of each issue, Alternative Futures hosts events, whereby collaborators and key speakers further discuss, and debate ideas touched upon in the issue – live -with audience participation.
Alternative futures will collaborate with many to further unlock these topics with the aim to disrupt the status quo and build a better future – together.
